Bio

Ben Chang is a Chicago-based electronic artist whose work uses creative technology to destabilize and re-imagine ordered and rational systems. His projects range from websites to software art to robotics to virtual reality environments, with common threads of interactivity, humour, and playful subversion. Melding art, design, research, and hacking, Chang's hybrid practice blurs the boundaries between art and engineering, design and provocation. Whether creating open-source tools and platforms for electronic artists or presenting alternative models for collaborative technological production, his work involves a critical engagement with technology, media, and information networks.

Chang exhibits and lectures internationally. His work has been shown at venues in Chicago including the Koscielak Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the WIRED NextFest; and at electronic art festivals including SIGGRAPH, Boston CyberArts, FILE Sao Paulo, MediaTerra Athens, and the Vancouver New Forms Festival.

He is Associate Professor of Art and Technology Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he teaches courses on virtual reality, interactive installation, videogames, and hacking as art.
