Earthquake Map Interactive Exhibit

Client: The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago

Year: 2008

Design and Programming: Ben Chang and Silvia Ruzanka

For the exhibition Nature Unleashed : Inside Natural Disasters, the Field Museum of Natural History wanted an interactive exhibit to put visitors in touch with the data that scientists use to study earthquakes around the world. We developed an interactive map that shows realtime earthquake activity as well as historical patterns. The touchscreen display uses live data from international seismic sensor networks and a database of earthquakes going back over fifty years.  An interactive 3D view mode shows the depth of earthquakes, making the structure of underground seismic events visible.
